Dr. Uretsky treats disorders related to transient and permanent vision changes and loss, dysfunction of the optic nerve and afferent visual pathways as well as nervous system control of eye movements. Specific diseases include optic neuritis (sometimes as part of multiple sclerosis), other optic neuropathies including ischemic optic neuropathy (a “stroke” to the optic nerve), visual field loss, cranial nerve palsies and pseudotumor cerebri (a disorder of increased intracranial pressure or elevated pressure inside the skull). Abnormalities of higher visual function, as would occur in dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders, are also diagnosed and treated. Double vision (diplopia) and other disorders of normal eye movement control, including nystagmus, are also cared for. Pupil abnormalities are treated as well. Thyroid eye disease, ocular myasthenia gravis and orbital and eyelid abnormalities (for example exophthalmus and Horner’s syndrome) are diagnosed and managed. Tumors and cancers of the visual system and brain are comprehensively managed along with the neurosurgeons and neuro-oncologists at Neurological Surgery P.C. Some examples include optic nerve meningiomas, optic nerve gliomas, pituitary tumors and various tumors along the visual pathway.
Dr. Uretsky also treats patients with Botox for hemifacial spasm (muscle spasms of one side of the face), blepharospasm (spasm of the musculature around the eyes causing eye closure) and aberrant regeneration of the seventh cranial nerve.
Dr. Uretsky received his B.A. in biology at New York University. He received his medical degree at the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine. Thereafter he completed his neurology residency at the University of Pittsburgh and his fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia. He has recently joined Neurological Surgery P.C. as the practice’s first Neuro-Ophthalmologist.
