Causes and Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease

Researchers are still plumbing the causes and the cure for Parkinson’s disease. Causes seem to be a combination of environmental factors and genetic components. Along with signs of Parkinson’s such as bradykinesia, rigidity and trembling mentioned above, those with Parkinson’s disease (PD) may exhibit other symptoms such as:

• Coordination and balance problems
• Bent over posture
• Constipation
• Speaking and handwriting shifts

Symptoms vary from person to person; common symptoms are:

• Tremor of the hands, arms, legs, jaw and face
• Rigidity or stiffness of the limbs and trunk
• Bradykinesia or slowness of movement
• Postural instability or impaired balance and coordination
