Artificial Disc Arthroplasty

What Is Artificial Disc Arthroscopy?

Artificial disc arthroscopy (or Artificial Disc Replacement) is a surgical procedure to remove a damaged or diseased disc and replace it with a man-made vertebral disc. The procedure is also known as Total Disc Replacement (TDR) or Total Disc Arthroplasty (TDA). The spinal discs are the cushions between the vertebrae that help absorb shock and provide flexibility to the spine. When a disc becomes damaged or diseased, it can cause pain, weakness, and numbness in the back, neck, arms, or legs.

What Conditions Does Artificial Disc Arthroscopy Treat?

Damaged or diseased discs can be caused by conditions such as degenerative disc disease or disc herniation.

Artificial disc replacement surgery may be recommended after conservative non-surgical treatments have failed to provide relief from symptoms caused by cervical radiculopathy or cervical myelopathy along with disc herniation:

  • pain that radiates from the neck to the arm
  • arm weakness, tingling and/or numbness
  • neck pain

Lumbar disc replacement surgery is an alternative to spinal fusion surgery for chronic back pain caused by a damaged disc. Implanting artificial discs instead of fusing or joining the vertebra means that spine mobility can be preserved.

State-of-the-Art Artificial Disc Arthroscopy Treatments at NSPC

The expert spine surgeons at NSPC Brain & Spine Surgery (NSPC) (NSPC) are experienced in minimally invasive and complex surgical procedures that give the best possible results. Our award-winning doctors are leaders in the New York area medical community, and many of them serve as chiefs of neurosurgery at prestigious Long Island hospitals.

Although the location, type of artificial disc, and other specifics change, disc replacement surgery has several key functions:

  • removal of the worn or herniated disc,
  • re-establishing vertebral height and inserting an artificial disc, and
  • preserving mobility in the spine.

If you have a cervical disc herniation, depending on your specific condition, a Mobi-C cervical disc replacement or a Prestige cervical disc may be a solution to your neck and/or arm pain.

NSPC provides full surgical services for lumbar disc disease treatments.

With world-class facilities and expert physicians, NSPC offers premier disc replacement surgery. Discover your life again—with improved back and neck mobility.
