About Dr. Gaudin

XAVIER P. J. GAUDIN, D.O., F.A.C.O.S.

Brain & Spine Surgeon

Xavier P. J. Gaudin, D.O., F.A.C.O.S., is a board-certified and dual-trained neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive, endoscopic, motion-preserving, and complex spinal surgery. He treats a full spectrum of brain, spine and peripheral nerve conditions, including scoliosis and spinal deformity, degenerative disorders, revision surgery, trauma, tumors, infections, and vascular malformations. In addition, he has special expertise in treating brain tumors, both open and endoscopic, such as meningioma or pituitary tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari malformations, craniocervical disorders, carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve neuropathies.

Dr. Gaudin is one of few physicians to be dual-trained in both neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery. This unique hybrid of expertise allows him to offer the most comprehensive care for spinal conditions. He utilizes the latest techniques, including minimally invasive, endoscopic, and indirect approaches, which maintain the integrity of the spinal musculature and soft tissues. Additionally, he offers motion-preserving alternatives, such as artificial disk replacement and laminoplasty, in order to preserve spinal mobility. Dr. Gaudin gives special importance to maximizing conservative multidisciplinary modalities, such as pain management, physical therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture, prior to considering any surgical intervention. “There are only a select few circumstances,” he notes, “where a patient actually requires surgery.”

When a patient becomes a candidate for operative care, Dr. Gaudin uses the latest advancements to minimize surgery-related pain. These include multimodal and patient-specific targeted pain regimens, muscle sparing techniques, long-acting local anesthetic, and enhanced recovery protocols. “Each of these focuses to improve a patient’s early recovery and function after surgery,” he says, “thereby minimizing complications and improving overall outcomes.”

Dr. Gaudin is actively involved in academics and research. He is an editorial board member for the International Journal of Neurosurgery, as well as the Neural Regeneration Research. He serves on the research fellowship committee for the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation. He has won numerous prizes, including research awards at the ACOS Annual Clinical Assembly, has published on The Journal of Neurological Surgery, and authored a book chapter on lumbar stenosis. Dr. Gaudin is fluent in French.

Dr. Gaudin sees patients in Rockville Centre, Bethpage, and Lake Success offices. He is affiliated with Mount Sinai South Nassau, NYU Long Island, Northwell Health, and Catholic Health hospitals.

Education & Training

Dr. Gaudin attended Illinois State University for his undergraduate studies, where he graduated magna cum laude and was on the Dean’s List. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Pikeville-Kentucky and graduated in the top ten percent of his class. Dr. Gaudin then completed his internship and residency in neurological surgery at Ohio University COM/Grant Medical Center and Riverside Methodist Hospital where he was appointed Chief Resident and clinical instructor. He received additional subspecialty training in minimally invasive, complex spinal deformity and scoliosis surgery at The Orthopedic Foundation in Ohio.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gaudin. I had back surgery with him and his expertise as well as his bed side manner was excellent. He takes the time to really explain what the issue is with you so you understand and aren't frightened going into the surgery. He also will do the most non evasive technique he can to solve the issue. I have recommended him many times to my friends and family.

When I first went to Dr. Gaudin in March of 2024 I did not have much hope. Dr. Gaudin and his staff, (mainly Kathleen), quickly changed my outlook. After the first appointment I was confident that he would be the Dr to perform my surgery. Now 6 weeks post op and I owe everything to Dr. Gaudin. My ALIF spinal fusion went perfectly and I had relief immediately from my excessive nerve and back pain. I would recommend anyone that feels hopeless to book an appointment with Dr. Xavier Gaudin, you will not be disappointed.
